Ascoli Piceno, the capitol of its self named province is a city with a history predating Rome.
Legend states the Sabini people followed a woodpecker to this beautiful zone while escaping persecution in the east. The city was conquered by many peoples in the ensuing centuries including the Romans, the Longobardi, Frederico II and finally entered a more peaceful time in which much of the city was rebuilt, in the last 300 years.
Here, you will see ancient roman bridges and an amphitheater, churches in romantic, gothic and renaissance styles, numerous towers and the important plazas Arringo and del Popolo.

In the Piazza del Popolo is located the famous Cafe Meletti which celebrated its 100th birthday this year and is decorated in the Belle Epoque style.
